Sydney Kings Shootout 2010

Sydney High & Newington College dominated the Sydney Kings School Shootout-the annual High School tournament run over 2 days at Newington College.

In Premier and Development divisions-both schools reached the grand final-with Sydney High winning the junior title 47-41 with High’s Blake McGlentchy receiving the MVP award.

In the Premier division, Newington and High cruised through their pool games but did receive some solid challenges from Trinity Grammar and the Scots College in their semi-final match-ups.

Newington play High in the grand final as a curtain raiser to the Kings opening home game v NZ Breakers this Saturday night at 6pm. Both schools are bursting with talent including the two Australian U20 representatives Daniel Hill (Newington) and Andre Dukanoviv (High) This game will showcase some of this city’s best junior talent and promise to be nail-biter- a perfect warm –up for our cardiac Kings!!!!

Tournament Director Phil Webster applauded the Sydney Kings for their strong support of school basketball and believes the tournament may provide future Kings players. Indeed both Graham Dann and Julian Kazzouh both attended schools that participated in this Sydney wide event.
